Hello World!

So hello world!

Today, 1st of Jan, 2014, this blog comes into existence. This post will serve as an introduction to what this is all about, what to expect, and me in general as a Cinephile.

Well, I am your usual college student, who happens to have a flair for writing, and is in absolute love with cinema. To say that I love watching films is an understatement. I Eat films, I sleep films, and I devour films. Yet, this craziness is very recent, and I never thought this way 2 years back. What changed? I got into college.

I study BMS (B.Sc. in Media Science) and out of various fields like journalism, radio, television, print, acting, theatre, etc., I think my heart’s stuck on Film-making. It somehow makes me feel alive and brings a glow inside. So here I am, that's what this blog is all about, to let out that awesomeness I feel inside, and spread it throughout the world, or whoever I can infect.

As a personal experience, till now I've delved deep into the past of films, it's journey and different movements that shaped the face of film-making as we see it today, and into the great Grand Masters of Cinema. These two were very deeply interlinked, and the journey has been quite eye-catching, literally. The French New Wave, the Italian Neo Realism, the German Expressionism, Surrealism in Cinema, etc., everything has helped shape the now Global Language of Cinema.

Perhaps more than everything else, the biggest change in me has been the 'eye-opening' that I've gone through. From seeing and appreciating the kind of films I did as a child to today, I have gone through quite a revolution myself. I've learned to differentiate the good from the bad, and understand the meaning of Cinema as a language, a medium with magic at the roots of its very inception, because what is a film? It’s a magic trick which makes you believe that a series of still images are actually moving images. That is why it’s called a Movie. I call it Magic.

A picture collage of the Grand Masters of Cinema will always be there at the bottom of this page, as they are always at the bottom of my work and heart. See how many you can identify! (I noticed Satyajit Ray first.)

Psst, did I tell you? I'm kind of, sort of, a filmmaker myself? Just made a short silent-fiction film, Auteur style, and a short documentary, classic style.
